Acupuncture (Back to Top)

Acupuncture is among the oldest healing practices in the world.  As part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture encourages the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning.  This is done by inserting needles and applying heat or electrical stimulation at very precise acupuncture points. Acupuncture needles are as thin as hair, solid, and are made from stainless steel. Only disposable needles are used, so there is no risk of infection from the treatments.  People experience acupuncture differently, but most feel no or minimal sensation as the needles are inserted.  Some people feel energized by treatment, while others feel relaxed. The classical explanation of how acupuncture works is that channels of energy run in regular patterns through the body and over its surface.  These energy channels, called meridians, are like rivers flowing through the body to irrigate and nourish the tissues.  An obstruction in the movement of these energy rivers is like a dam that backs up in others. The meridians can be influenced by needling the acupuncture points.  The acupuncture needles unblock the obstructions and restore the healthy flow through the meridians.  Therefore, the treatments can help the body’s internal organs correct the imbalances in their digestion, absorption, and energy production activities, and in the circulation of their energy through the meridians. The modern scientific explanation is that needling the acupuncture points stimulates the nervous system to release chemicals in the muscles, spinal cord, and brain.  These chemicals will either change the experience of pain, or they will trigger the release of other chemicals and hormones which influence the body’s own internal regulating system. The improved energy and biochemical balance produced by acupuncture results in stimulating the body’s natural healing abilities, and in promoting physical and emotional well-being. While acupuncture is often associated with pain control, in the hands of a well-trained doctor, it has much broader applications.   It can be effective as the only treatment used, or as a support to other modalities in many medical disorders.  The World Health Organization recognizes the use of acupuncture in the treatment of a wide variety of medical problems, including:

  • Digestive disorders
  • Immune system disorders
  • Respiratory disorders
  • Neurological and muscular disorders
  • Urinary, menstrual, and reproductive disorders
Acupuncture is especially useful in resolving physical problems related with tension, stress, and emotional conditions. The number of treatments needed vary from person to person.  For chronic or very complex conditions, one to two treatments a week for several months may be necessary.  For acute problems, usually fewer visits are required.

Herbal Medicine (Back to Top)

The practice of herbal medicine dates back to the very earliest periods of Chinese history and it includes not only plants, but minerals and animal products as well.
Chinese herbal medicine is an integral part of Traditional Chinese Medicine.  Over 7,000 herbs have been identified in China and more than 400 of these are widely used in the United States.
Chinese herbs are comonly used in conjunction with acupuncture, but can be prescribed alone (for children or those who do not wish to have acupuncture treatments).
Chinese herbal medicine can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions, from acute to chronic illness.  It can also help boost the immune system, prevent a disease, and slow down the aging process.
Chinese herbal medicine is safe if prescribed by a licensed acupuncturist.  In California, all acupuncturists must pass a rigorous licensing test which includes Chinese herbal medicine.
There are different forms of herbal preparations:
Decoctions - herbs that are simmered for an hour and strained; You drink them like a tea.
Herbal pills - pills are good for prolonged intake in case of chronic illness.
Powdered extracts - herb extracts are convenient to use because you do not have to prepare them in advance and are easy to transport.  This is the most popular Chinese herbal medicine form.
Liniments and plasters - These materials are generally for external use only.  They relieve pain and promote healing.

Nutrition (Back to Top)

Good nutrition is the foundation of good health.  Everyone needs the four basic nutrients--water, carbohydrates, proteins, and fats--as well as vitamins, minerals, and other micronutrients.  To be able to choose the proper foods, and to better understand why those foods should be supported with supplements, one needs to have a clear idea of the components of a healthy diet.
Many cultures have realized that the type of food eaten, how it is prepared, and how it is consumed has a powerful effect on our health.  The Chinese, with their insights into Qi and the subtle energetic workings of the body have set out clearly how various foods affect different organs, and how diet may be changed to counter the effects of a number of influences, such as climate and lifestyle.
Although most patients coming for Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment today do need internal medicine and/or acupuncture to effect a more permanent cure, without appropriate changes in diet and lifestyle, herbs and acupuncture do not achieve their full and lasting effect.
Dr. Soltynski's motto is "Food can be your Medicine or your Poison".  Please, book your nutritional consult soon.

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT (Back to Top)

EFT  is an emotional version of acupuncture without the needles.  Instead, you stimulate certain release points (acupuncture points) by tapping on them with your fingertips.  The process is easy to memorize and can be done anywhere.
The basic concept of EFT is that all negative emotions are caused by disturbances in the body's energy system.  EFT balances the energy around the thought and by doing so changes the emotional response.

Breast Cancer Screen Test (Back to Top)

The Estronex 2/16 Test is a measurement of two important forms of estrogens: 2-OHE1 (the "good" estrogen tends to inhibit cancer growth) and 16-a-OHE1 (the "bad"estrogen encourages tumor development). The ratio of "good to bad estrogen" is determined from a single urine specimen. Studies have shown that women with low Estronex 2/16 ratios have much higher rates of breast cancer. Low Estronex 2/16 ratios also indicate increased long-term risk fo other estrogen sensitive cancers, including uterine, ovarian, cervical, and even head and neck cancers.

Food Allergy Test (Back to Top)

It is called the Immuno 1 Bloodprint Test, and it checks your blood to see if you are having a "toxic reaction" to common, everyday foods.
What most people don't realize is that the foods they are eating, such as wheat, milk, eggs, corn, etc., can often cause a sublte but unhealthy reaction in their bodies.
One simple blood test can determine exactly which foods are like "poison" to your body.

Heavy Metal Test (Back to Top)

This urine test is an invaluable tool for the diagnosis or confirmation  of potentially toxic elements such as lead, mercury, cadmium, nickel, arsenic, aluminium and other heavy metals.  It involves urine collection for six hours following an oral administration of a chelating agent (DMSA).

Neurotransmitter Test (Back to Top)

The simple urinary test is a useful tool in determining if certain conditions, including depression, anxiety, insomnia, weight problems, and fatigue, are linked to neurotransmitter imbalances.
The brain uses neurotransmitters to tell the heart to beat, the lungs to breath, and the intestines to digest. Optimal and balanced neurotransmitter levels are necessary for healthy functioning not just in the brain but for the whole body.
There are currently a total of nine different parameters available for testing.  They are:  glutamate, epinephrine, norepinephrine, dopamine, phenylethylamine (PEA), GABA, serotonin, glutamine, and histamine.

Osteoporosis Test (Bone Resorpti (Back to Top)

This simple urine test identifies accelerated bone breakdown and predicts the probability of bone loss without therapy. It can also help monitor whether therapy is working and measure a patient's response to therapy within three months.
The Bone Resorption Test
does not subject you to harmful radiation and you do not have to wait a year or two for another bone density test to measure progress or deterioraton; you can repeat this test in three months to see whether or not you are getting results from a chosen therapy.
DEXA test shows you what your bone looks like today, but cannot tell you how quickly your bones are breaking down and how well they are rebuilding themselves.
Bone Resorption Test requires no fasting and is non-invasive. You will collect first or second morning urine and send it to the lab.

Saliva Hormone Testing (Back to Top)

Saliva testing is a convenient, inexpensive, and above all, accurate means of testing steroid hormones. Scientific studies have shown a strong correlation between steroid hormone levels in saliva and the amount of hormone in the blood that is active or "bioavailable." It is this fraction of total hormone that is free to enter the target tissues in the brain, uterus, skin, and breasts. Saliva testing can be done anywhere anytime. Testing that relies on blood drawn in the doctor's office makes it harder to obtain samples at specific times (such as in the early morning) or multiple times during the day. In addition, hormones in saliva are exceptionally stable and can be stored at room temperature for up to a week without affecting the accuracy of the result. This offers maximum flexibility in sample collection and shipment. For more information, please contact dr. Soltynski at 949-240-7773. Hormones we test in saliva include:

  • Estradiol (E2)
  • Estrone
  • Estriol
  • Progesterone (Pg)
  • Testosterone (T)
  • DHEA-S (Ds)
  • Cortisol (C)
  • Melatonin

Antioxidant Test (Back to Top)

Testing anitoxidant levels using a BioPhotonic Scanner, the world's first immediate and non-invasive method of measuring antioxidant activity in human tissue.  By simply placing the palm of the hand in front of a low-energy blue light laser, patients obtain a reading of their own antioxidant level, a numeric reading which correlates with levels of antioxidants in blood and tissues.
Antioxidants are essential disease-fighting nutrients, such as vitamins A and C, and beta-carotene, found in abundance in certain fruits and vegetables.
